This week’s task was to get up early to work on our dream. And to take a picture of the alarm clock to show when we got up. Luckily, since I work later in the morning, I have been using my morning time to work on writing for awhile. But, I have been wanting to get up even earlier to allow myself even more time to work. This morning, I did manage to get up a bit earlier.

Don’t hate me please. I know that for many people, getting up early involves 5 a.m. My morning time is one thing I can be thankful for in my day job.
We’re also supposed to share what the early bird gets to do: for me it’s writing, blogging, and sometimes a little music.
So there you go… I managed to get my lazy butt up a little sooner. I was pleased. Although Drew was not because he didn’t get any morning snuggles. Sorry baby.

Week 2 went well. Here are my successes/failures for week 2.
1. Finish rough draft of my book: I wrote about 5-6 pages this week.
2. Write three songs. Record at least one: This is the goal that I’m struggling with. Although I don’t feel I did much work on it this week, I did receive some encouragement and accountability from a fellow musician/songwriter. He gave me some great ideas on how to structure my time and be productive. Also, while chatting with a drummer friend, he mentioned that he has been wanting to do some songwriting himself. Hopefully I can have some accountability and perhaps even a songwriting partner.
3. Spend 30 minutes each week meal planning: I am nailing this one. I planned out the first two weeks of the year and loved coming home and not having to guess at what was for dinner. I just finished meal planning for this week, and I found that my grocery list is getting shorter. It seems that I’m more aware of what’s in my pantry and fridge and not having to buy as much.
4. Get back into daily quiet time: I am going through the motions of this one. I have read a chapter of Scripture everyday but I really need to spend more time meditating on it. Right now it’s just something I’m checking off my to-do list.
One thing I did not finish for week 2 was my Tuesday Task. I was to ask someone else what their dream/goals were. I e-mailed a friend with this question (I didn’t get a chance to see her that week to ask her face to face) but have not heard back yet. I could ask my two or three readers here. What are your dreams/goals? Share in the comments if you feel inclined.

I’ve completed week one of Finish Year, and on Jon Acuff’s blog, he asked participators to post their progress in the comments. Like I said this year, I feel that the added accountability will lead to more success.
Here’s my success/failure of week one.
- Finish rough draft of my book. I wrote 8 pages this week. I am taking that as a success. In addition to writing those pages, I spent some time reading through old journals for writing material.
- Write three songs. Record at least one. I need to hustle more on this one. This one will be my hardest one to achieve. It’s always been easier to run away from my music rather than practice it and do something with it. I didn’t completely ignore it this week though. I practiced guitar (though minimally) and wrote down a few lyric ideas. It’s better than nothing, and I know this goal will take some time to fully achieve. Little steps.
- Spend 30 minutes meal planning each week. I meal planned last week and then grocery shopped for all ingredients needed for each meal. And guess what? I didn’t have to stop by Publix eight times during the week to pick up that one thing I needed for dinner. It was all already at the house, ready to be prepared. Plus, I made a couple crock pot meals, which were ready and smelling awesome when I got home. I even made muffins which lasted through the week for breakfast. My one bit of “failure” in this is that I didn’t stick to the weekend meal plan, and we ended up eating out twice. Granted, Drew and I decided to go on a bit of a date on Saturday night, so that was okay. Plus, we had leftovers for dinner tonight. AND, I’ve already meal planned for next week.
- Get back into daily quiet time. I have read at least one chapter of Matthew every day this week. I am starting small on this one. So far, so good.
I’m excited to see what I can accomplish this year.

Finish Year is here, and I am ready. I’ve made resolutions in the past, and have been mildly successful at about 50% of them. I’m hoping that with added accountability (from online communities and friends that know me) I will add to my success rate.
There are “tasks” that will be assigned each week, and this week was easy.
- Write down my FinishYear goals. (Physically write. No typing.)
- Take a picture of the list and share it with people.
- Put it somewhere where I’ll see it everyday.
So, here’s my list.
