Drew and I watched the movie Julie & Julia last night. I had heard great things about it, and it certainly delivered. Drew wasn’t too sure about it, but he really enjoyed it. The movie follows two stories: the story of Julia Childs and how she struggled for years to get her cookbook published, and Julie Powell, a frustrated young 30-something woman who is bored with her cubicle job and decides to blog about cooking her way through Julia Child’s famous cookbook. Meryl Streep is amazing as Childs, and I could relate to Amy Adams character as she struggled through a life she didn’t expect and wanting a creative way to add some spice to it. I could also relate to her meltdowns. I think all women can.
I’m a big fan of movies that encourage following your passion and taking initiative to make your life what you want it to be. They’re inspiring and make you want to jump off the couch and do the same thing.
Drew and I were talking last night as we were drifting off to sleep that our blog lacks… um… focus. I’m sure it’s totally entertaining to read our random thoughts, but it seems like the most popular blogs are ones that follow a theme. Not that we need to be popular. But it would feel good to have a focus for this thing. We didn’t really come up with anything, but it was good to start thinking.
